Speaker Profiles

Bi Xuezhi, Ph.D.
Associate Professor (adjunct), Head of Protein Analytics, Analytical Science and Technologies,
Bioprocessing Technology Institute, A*STAR
Dr. Bi has 30 years of research experience on protein separation and proteomics on wide range of protein samples from microbial, plant, animal, to recombinant biotherapeutics. After obtained his MSc and PhD in China, he underwent postdoctoral training at the International Rice Research Institute and National University of Singapore. He joined A*STAR, contributed to chemical proteomics for chemical probe/drug target identification, protein PTM and interacting partners’ characterization, at BTI, his team established mass spectrometry based platform for biotherapeutics product CQAs characterization, identification and quantification of host cell protein (HCPs) impurity, and quantitative profiling CHO culture processes using  in-house 10K comprehensive CHO cell proteome spectral library, is currently working on streamlined at-line/real-time DIA-MS workflow for online CQAs monitoring and  processing profiling.

Mosami Galvankar, Ph.D.
Field Applications Specialist, Cytiva
Mosami received PhD in Life Sciences from University of Mumbai, India with specialization in algal protein purification and biochemical characterization. She further pursued research in developing model systems for Endometriosis during her Post Doctoral fellowship from Indian Council of Medical Research, India. She has 7+ years of experience post PhD in study designing, assay troubleshooting and data analysis using various technologies. In her current role at Cytiva, she provides application support on Life Sciences product portfolio namely Biacore, Protein analysis and Lab AKTAs; to Scientists from academic institutes and biotech/biopharma companies, in projects ranging from fundamental research to drug discovery and biosimilar characterization.

Namrata Saxena, MSc. 
Technical Specialist, Phenomenex
Namrata Saxena is a Technical Specialist for the Asia Pacific region, based in Phenomenex Sydney, Australia. She has a post graduate degree in Environmental Chemistry, with a specialization in Analytical Chemistry from Jiwaji University, India.
She has been with Phenomenex for over 4 years and has more than 16 years of experience with chromatography working in various fields, including Environmental, Pulp and Paper, HPLC & GC column manufacturing.
Before joining Phenomenex, Namrata spent 10 years in Column Chemistry, Column manufacturing, and method development with Bischoff Chromatography, Germany. She has 4 years of research experience in analyzing Environmental Pollutants with India’s leading Research Organizations.
In her current role as a Technical Specialist she provides product, technical and troubleshooting assistance to customers globally.

Chuthakorn Chartthai (Champ), MSc.
Technical Specialist, Pall Corporation - Laboratory
Champ has a BSC. Degree in Biology from Chulalongkorn University and MSc. Degree in Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering from Mahidol University, Thailand.
Currently Champ is a Technical Specialist for Pall Laboratory for the region of SEA and provides technical support for Laboratory products, such as Small filters and equipment in Micro QC, Analytical, vaccine R&D and research segment.
Previously Champ worked as a Field Application Specialist at Merck, Thailand, where he provided expertise technical support for diagnostic solutions such as Stain & Dye for pathology lab, diagnostic antibody, viral detection kit, etc., Flavors Fragrances and Biocontrol such as Hygiene monitoring and Food pathogen rapid test products.
Champ also worked for Gibthai co. ltd as a senior technical application specialist for molecular biology solutions and his work primarily involved nucleic acid extraction, PCR, qPCR, cloning, western & southern blot.

Sudipto Bari, Ph.D.
Member, Implementation Office/ Senior Research Fellow, ACTRIS/ National Cancer Centre Singapore
Dr Bari is currently a Senior Research Fellow at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. In addition, he is a key member of the MOH-appointed Implementation Office that is developing the national program and centralised manufacturing facility for cell, tissue and gene therapy (CTGTs) through establishment of ACTRIS which stands for Advanced Cell Therapy and Research Institute, Singapore. Dr Bari’s research interests are in the areas of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells along with process innovations that would enable cost-, time- and resource-efficient manufacturing of cell, tissue and gene therapy.

Kitipong Uaesoontrachoon, Ph.D.
Chief Scientific Officer, Genepeutic Bio, Co. Ltd.
Kitipong Uaesoontrachoon received his PhD degree in molecular and cellular biology from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He then completed post-doctoral training at Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, DC and held a position of principal director of research at AGADA Biosciences.
His previous work involved overseeing the entire pre-clinical trial and clinical testing operations for neuromuscular disorders. This includes the use of gene therapy correcting the primary defect in these disorders such as mini/micro dystrophin-AAV and phosphorodiamidate morpholino oligonucleotides (PMO) to skip the mutated exon. Currently, Kitipong serves as chief scientific officer (CSO) at Genepeutic Bio, a CDMO that specializes in manufacturing of GMP grade CAR-T cells for the treatment of various forms of cancer.

Walter Feng, Ph.D.
Senior Field Service Application Specialist, SCIEX
Dr. Walter Feng is senior field service application specialist at SCIEX.  SCIEX is leading the development of Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) technology. More efforts are given to the Biopharma/Pharma market applications and solutions.  Dr Feng graduated from National University of Singapore, Faculty of Science with PhD in 2004. Prior to joining SCIEX, he had worked in NUS and A-STAR with various research projects using SCIEX CE technology.   

Minho Tak, Ph.D.
JAPAC BioPharma & Drug Discovery Application Scientist, Molecular Devices
Minho Tak received his Ph.D. in Neuroscience and Electrophysiology from Seoul National University. After receiving his degree, he worked as an Application Scientist for 10 years for Molecular Devices, and now he is a BioPharma Application Scientist for the JAPAC region. 

Penny Tavormina, Ph.D.
Application Scientist, Molecular Devices
Penny has a PhD in biology and used microscopy to study cell cycle regulation as a customer before joining Molecular Devices more than 10 years ago. She works with our global customer base to support high content screening and drug discovery products. 

Adam Cliffe, Ph.D.
Marketing and Applications Manager,
Leica Microsystems 
Adam Cliffe completed his Ph.D. at the MRC Laboratory for Molecular Biology in Cambridge on Wingless signalling in Drosophila. He then worked at EMBL in Heidelberg, studying 3D cell migration in Drosophila border cells and Medaka macrophages. He then continued this work at the Temasek Lifescience laboratory and A*STAR IMCB in Singapore. 

Luc Zhang, Ph.D.
Sales and Marketing APAC, MIMETAS
Luc Zhang is in Sales and Marketing APAC of MIMETAS. Currently he is leading MIMETAS organ on a chip technology in the Asia Pacific region. His career expands over several positions and industries, including biotech researcher, strategic consultant in pharma, BD in CRO company, and founder of an advertising company during his time at university. Luc worked his way up from a 3D microtissue researcher to the commercial side. He is passionate about applying new and advanced biotechnology to promote drug discovery and development efficiency and help clients successfully integrate this technology with their research. With a doctorate in pharmacology from Kyoto University, trilingual ability and understanding of cross-cultural issues enable him to be comfortable with the international bio-related business.

Luciano A. G. Lucas , Ph.D.
Director Leica AIVIA, Leica Microsystems 
Luciano obtained his PhD from Nottingham University in the UK and has been working in the bioimaging analysis field for over 14 years. He is currently the director of AIVIA at Leica Microsystems. 

Johnson Ng, Ph.D.
CEO, JN Medsys, Singapore
Johnson Ng is the founder and CEO of JN Medsys, a Singapore-based company which brings leading-edge diagnostic solutions based on its digital PCR platform into the space of oncology and infectious diseases. Johnson started JN Medsys with a vision to build superior genomic tools to improve human health. He spearheaded development of the company’s Clarity digital PCR system from just an idea into a commercial product sold internationally. With that, JN Medsys became the first Asian company to commercialize a digital PCR system, and only one of a handful in the world, winning it a Frost & Sullivan innovation award in 2017. Johnson holds a B.Eng (First Class Honours) and Ph.D in Bioengineering from the National University of Singapore.   

Giridharan Periyasamy, Ph.D.
Head – High Throughput Phenomics 
Experimental Drug Discovery Centre, A*STAR
Dr. Giri holds a position of Head-High Throughput Phenomics at EDDC-ASTAR and brings with him over 18 years of experience from academia and industry. He is the domain expert in Assay automation, miniaturization, robotics, HTS and High Content Imaging technology. His research focus is on the Drug Discovery, Cancer biology, Drug resistance, disease modelling and pathway networks of human diseases.

As the Head of High throughput phenomics platform, Giri has established diverse high throughput functional and chemical genomics screens for target identification/ validation and proof of principle studies. He has successfully collaborated with numerous scientists within the Singapore ecosystem and beyond, enabling them to explore & decipher high throughput biology studies to uncover novel disease phenotype.

Helen Whitby, Ph.D.
Technical Specialist, Phenomenex U.K.
Helen graduated from the University of Manchester with a First-Class Bachelor of Science with honors in Chemistry and subsequently completed her PhD also at the University of Manchester in synthetic organic chemistry specializing in analogues of Shikimic acid to treat malaria. Following her PhD, Helen moved to Chicago as a Post-doctoral researcher at the University of Illinois in Chicago to research on electron-deficient divalent reactive intermediates, specifically nitrenium ions, for the development of antiviral agents to treat Ebola.
After finishing her post doc, Helen joined Phenomenex UK as a technical sales consultant and spent 10 years as the Bulk Media and Preparative specialist for the UK and Ireland, supporting large purification companies with their production scale applications. In her 2 years as the HPLC product manager, Helen supported the UK team in all aspects of HPLC. Helen joined the Technical Department in 2017 as a technical specialist with a focus on the rapidly expanding bio industry and this is where her interest and expertise within the technical department remain today.
