Leveraging the Power of a Core-Shell Particle to Improve Micro and Nano Flow Separations
with Jason Anspach Ph.D, HPLC Product Manager, Phenomenex
Date: April 7th, 2021
Time: 10:00 SGT (UTC +8)/ 13:00 AEDT (UTC +11)
The use of micro and nano flow separations is a powerful tool to increase sensitivity in LC-MS workflows. The increase in sensitivity is of great importance in application areas where one has a limited amount of sample, such as bottom up proteomics. However, it can also be leveraged to allow for the use of smaller sample sizes when sample collection is intrusive, such as blood samples, and the ability to have to harvest less sample is a major benefit to the donor. The sensitivity improvements seen in micro and nano scale separations is afforded by the increased ionization efficiency when less mobile phase is present in the analyte band. The sensitivity increase, however, can be further improved by having higher efficiency columns that generate narrower peaks. As the chromatographic peak width reduces, the height increases, leading to sensitivity improvements. Better analyte resolution also reduces the duty cycle of the MS, providing better spectral information.
In this webinar we will show how the use of core-shell based HPLC materials, long known to significantly improve efficiency in analytical HPLC, can be used in micro and nano scale LC/MS analysis to improve separation quality and provide better sensitivities.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone performing proteomics or metabolomic analysis.
Proteomic, biopharma and academic researchers interested in omics analysis.
About the Speaker:
Jason Anspach received his BS in Chemistry from Binghamton University, The State University of New York and his Ph.D. from The State University of New York at Buffalo where he worked under the advisement of Luis A. Colón.  His work there centered on improving column performance through novel column packing methods and the use of Sub 2 µm packing materials.  He continued that work since joining Phenomenex in 2005 as a Senior Scientist in charge of column packing development as well as the development of novel column hardware platforms.  In 2019 he assumed his current role as Global Product manager for HPLC.
